
According to the National Centre for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIM) Energy Healing involves “…the channelling of healing energy through the hands of a practitioner into the client's body to restore a normal energy balance and, therefore, health”
Energy healing is based on the premise that the body holds an energy field that can impact our health and well-being. Imbalances in our energy field can lead to physical pain, tension & emotional difficulties like stress, anxiety and other mental health conditions.
But how does it work and what is this 'energy' we talk of?
Reiki and Shamanic Healing utilise energy to clear imbalances in the body's energy field to promote healing. Some call it energy, others refer to it as chi, qi or prana.
This perception of energy as a healing practise can be found in ancient forms of medicine, such as traditional Chinese medicine and ayurveda. The underlying belief of Chinese Medicine is that a primary energy source, known as “qi,” moves throughout the body. When there is an imbalance of qi, physical and mental health difficulties may result.
Similarly, ayurveda, which originated in India more than 3,000 years ago, is a system of medicine based on the belief that disease is caused by an imbalance or stress in a person's mind. The primary energy source in ayurveda is called “prana” and mirrors the concept of qi in Chinese Medicine. In both Chinese Medicine and ayurveda, the goal is to help the body to find balance and realign your energy so that healing of the mind and body can occur.
Improved Depression and Anxiety Symptoms:
Studies have shown that Energy Healing can improve your mood and help with symptoms of depression and anxiety. A 2017 review of 13 studies found that reiki was more effective than a placebo at reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety, as well as improving the individual's overall quality of life.
